Description: Indigenous Tharu healer Shovan Mahato at a home-visit in the village Bangain, Chitwan. He brings the needed herbs and prepares them on the spot. The Tharu healers use about 1800 different species of medical plants used to cure or ail headache, burns, fever, small pox, toothache, asthma, chest pains, ring worm, dysentery, heatstroke fever, scabies, pneumonia, bone fracture, cough, snake poisoning and much more. In addition to the jungle plants, a prayer to the forest goddess Bandevi is performed. Tarei, Nepal 2003. |
